About Shelia
Above everything else, Shelia Kistler is a Christian. She is a conservative who values direct, kind, and honest communication. This is how she and her husband raised their three daughters. These were her values in her professional career in Laramie County School District #1 for nearly 32 years; and what she will value as your next LCSD1 School Board Trustee.
Shelia has the unique and valuable perspective needed to represent the community in LCSD1. She will do what is right, what is needed, and what is best. She has worked in all three triads since 1993. She has been a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and now a substitute teacher. She has taught 1st-6th grade and has also been an Adjunct Professor teaching school safety for the Homeland Security Department.
At the heart of everything for Sheila, is service. She has been a part of the military community as a child, spouse, and she was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. During “National Military Family Recognition Week” she and her family were recognized in 1992 "for their outstanding contributions as a family to improve their community and strengthen America".
Shelia is also thankful to have been an integral part of Arp Elementary School receiving the National Distinguished Title 1 School award in 2005. This was followed by Arp being recognized with the National Blue-Ribbon School award the next year. In addition, Shelia was nominated several times for Teacher of the Year.
She has been a teacher leader and teacher mentor throughout her educational career. Now, she wants to serve the community of LCSD1. She loves Cheyenne and wants to continue cultivating its progress in a different role. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she has a strong desire to serve the community.
Shelia can see many wonderful accomplishments in the district over the past 30 plus years. She acknowledges the amazing teachers, parents and students who have contributed to those successes; however, she also sees many ways the district can improve and better serve teachers, parents, students and taxpayers alike.
She is ready to make an impact with a focus on school safety, core education, encouraging parental involvement as well as improving communication and fostering an environment of unity where everyone’s voice matters.
